April Fool’s on Me
The latop is dead, long live the new laptop. My previous electronic companion was an old clunky Compaq Armada M700, but I called him Frodo. Frodo was slow but steady. He travelled with me to all points of the compass. I wrote my NaNoWriMo attempts with him. I composed blog entries. I processed my digital photos. Five days ago, he gave up the ghost.
…the disaster was not as great as it could have been…
He had been developing power issues. The battery died first, and a day later the disk drive crashed and the motherboard fried. There was no recovery possible. [sigh]. I did manage, however, to back up my data on the trusty network drive I have. The disaster was not as great as it could have been. It’s just time consuming to reload everything.
So I took another old laptop from the storage heap in the basement off the shelf and started the lengthy process of installing everything. The keyboard is different, there are only two mouse buttons and not three, and it’s thicker and clunkier…and it doesn’t have a name yet. I miss Frodo.
