Where are the Young Entrepreneurs?
Back in the days when dinosaurs ruled the earth and I was a lad, there was an entrepreneurial spirt amongst the young. We set up lemonade stands, and ad hoc yard sales to raise spending cash. Cash we could spend on anything we wanted. Cash we could spend on candy.
…What to do, what to do…
Candy was the goal. It’s all we had. We didn’t have video games, iTunes, or whatever else kids are spending cash on these days. You would think that with all of the expenses that it takes to be a well adjusted youth in today’s technocentric and costly society, that there would be deluge of young up and commers coming up with ways of making a little extra lucre. More specifically. I’m wondering where the heck are all the fresh young faces, coming to my door with snow shovels in their hands. After all we just had a big dump of the fluffy white stuff.
“Hey, mister. I’ll shovel the snow from your driveway for an even twenty.”
“A twenty? Well in my day son, we used to shovel for a fiver.”
“It’s a lot of snow mister, I’d hate you to have to do it all yourself.”
“Well son, you have me over a barrel. A twenty it is.”
Unfortunately this conversation has never taken place. So here I sit hemmed in by the elements, sipping my hot coffee, looking at the mountain of snow in my driveway and weighing my options. Shovel now and go to work, or wait until it melts. What to do, what to do. Waiting means a snow day. No drive to work. Productivity will suffer. I take another swig from my cup and think that these non-entrepreneurial kids are seriously damaging the economy…
