Houston, We Have a NaNoWriMo Go

Filed under: Writing - Ric @ 10:19 am

The accouterments of writing are all here: laptop, note pad, pot of coffee, bottle of aspirin, comfortable slippers, pipe. If I was Hemingway, I’d need a bottle of JD number 7, but I think that’s more appropriate for the second week.

it was a dark and stormy night

I have everything I need. I even have time. Precious time. I am on vacation this week. No distractions from the office, nothing to focus on except characterization and plot. All I have to do is start typing the damn thing. Can you already sense the hostility? By the end of this month, I fear I will hate my creation, and like that other creator of a monster, I will end up like Dr. Frankenstein trying to destroy it. Either that or the other members of my household will be forced to attack me with torches and pitchforks. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

For now, I just need to start, so here goes. “It was a dark and stormy night.” Hmmm. Perhaps I should catch the next muse. That last one seemed a little rickety.

took awhile to get the Mojo running, but the two pots of coffee helped. Back to the keyboard!

Hmmm, how about starting: “It was a bright and sunny day…”

    Best of luck this month!

The very bestest of luck to you! I decided not to try this year… still shaking from last time!

Go Ric, Go! Gimme an ‘R’! Gimme an ‘I’… OK, I’ll stop now.

    :)

How about I drink the JD for you, and use the resulting not-so-funny-to-me-the-next-morning antics as inspiration for your story. Great timing to take holidays…here’s cheerin’ you on. Perhaps I’ll do the 2006 event.

I want to read one that starts, “My first day in the monastery…” or “It all began as usual, with my pager going off.” Something that leverages one of your vast fields of actual — and to me, strange & wondrous — experience.

Or, if you’ve got one underway already, godspeed. I’d love to read it as it evolves.

Rachel… for the monastary stuff look at this old post from an old blog: Spectacles Testicles Wallet & Watch (I may repost it to this blog someday in the future).

The current work is about finding freedom again, so there will definately be some office ranting there :)

    Thanks for the well wishes.

Mik… yes the hatred of some characters grows in the telling :)

Tim - any excuse to drink eh? don’t wait for 2006, you need to start writing stuff now for the Troupe to be!

Hi Ric. So, you took time off work to start on your novel! That’s a good way to start. Plus coffee to keep the creative juices running. Go for it!

Watson - It is proving to be a more relaxed way to ease into the mayhem. and the coffee does help.
